encausticus, a, um (εγκαυστικός), I) aktiv, das Einbrennen betreffend; subst., encaustica, ae, f. (sc. ars), die Kunst, mit eingebrannten Farben zu malen, die Wachsmalerei, Enkaustik, Plin. 35, 122. – II) passiv, eingebrannt, pictura enc., ein Gemälde, bei dem die Farben mit flüssigem Wachse eingebrannt werden, ein Wachsgemälde, Plin. 35, 122.
