hīr u. īr (Stamm χερ, wov. χείρ) = θέναρ, lat. vola (Gloss. u. Charis. 42, 15. Prob. cath. 11, 19), die hohle Hand, Lucil. sat. 22, 3 M. (bei Cic. de fin. 2, 23 nach Madvig zw.). – Außerdem bei den Gramm. (wo gew. ir), die es bald für deklinabel (Genet. hiris, hirris), bald für indeklinabel, bald für ein masc., bald für ein neutr. halten, s. Charis. 24, 20; 35, 28; 42, 15; 546, 36. Prisc. inst. 5, 18; 6, 45; de nom. § 6. – / L. Müller (Lucil. 22. no. 2. p. 243) glaubt fälschlich, hir sei bei Lucil. »eine Art sipho«; vgl. Löwe Prodr. p. 328 sq.
