Perillus

Perillus, ī, m. (Πέριλλος), ein Künstler in Metallarbeit in Athen, der für den Tyrannen Phalaris in Agrigent einen ehernen Stier mit hohlem Leibe verfertigte, in den Verbrecher gesteckt und durch untergelegtes Feuer gebraten werden sollten. Der Künstler wurde vom Tyrannen genötigt, zur Probe selbst in den Stier zu kriechen, und kam so ums Leben, Plin. 34, 89. Ov. art. am. 1, 653. Sil. 14, 212 sq.: saeve Perille, Prop. 2, 25, 12. – Dav.
