pistrinum

pīstrīnum, ī, n. (pinso), die Stampfmühle, der Ort, wo das Getreide, vor Erfindung der Mahlmühlen, in hohlen Klötzen oder Mörsern gestampft wurde. Später wurden solche Mühlen durch Pferde od. Esel getrieben od. man schickte Sklaven zur Strafe hinein, die statt des Viehes die Mühle drehen mußten (vgl. Spengel Ter. Andr. 199. Wagner Ter. heaut. 530), in pistrino molere, Ter.: far in pistrino pinsare ac torrere, Varro: in pistrino pinsere farinam, Varro fr.: alqm in pistrinum tradere, Plaut., dare, dedere, Ter., conicere, Ulp. dig.: alqm in pistrinum submittere, Sen.: operam pistori locare, Gell.: homo pistrino dignus, Ter. In diesen Mühlen wurde zugleich das Brot gebacken, dah. pistrinum exercere, Müller und Bäcker sein, Suet. Aug. 4, 2. Apul. met. 9, 10 extr.: u. man mästete Schweine in den Mühlen mit der Kleie, Plaut. capt. 807 sq. – übtr., tibi mecum in eodem est pistrino vivendum, mußt mit mir in demselben Joche ziehen, Cic. de or. 2, 144. – als Bezeichnung verworfener Sklaven, pistrinorum civitas, Plaut. Pers. 420, wo Ritschl pristinorum civitas. – / In Handschriften oft pristrinum, so mehrfach bei Plaut. u. bei Catull. 97, 10 cod. Oxon.; vgl. Ritschelii Opusc. 2, 461.
