Pomptīnus (Pomtīnus), a, um, Name einer Gegend in Latium, pontinisch, ager, Liv. 4, 25, 4; 6, 5, 1 u. 6, 6, 1. Flor. 1, 13, 20. – palus u. paludes, eine niedrige, den Überschwemmungen der Flüsse Amasenus u. Ufens ausgesetzte u. von vielen Berggewässern durchströmte sumpfige Gegend, durch die die appische Landstraße ging u. deren Trockenlegung von Sethegus, Cäsar, Augustus, Trajan usw., auch in neueren Zeiten oft versucht worden ist, Plin. 3, 59 u. 17, 31. Mart. 10, 74, 10. Lucan. 3, 85: siccare (austrocknen, trocken legen) Pomptinas paludes, Suet. Caes. 44, 3. – subst., a) Pomptīnum, ī, n., das Pontinische, die pontinische Gegend, Liv. 2, 34, 4. – b) Pomptina summa, ae, f., das obere Ende der pontinischen Sümpfe, Cic. ad Att. 7, 5, 3.
