Achaemenēs, is, m. (Ἀχαιμένης), Ahnherr der altpersischen Könige, Großvater des Cyrus u. Begründer des Geschlechtes der Achämeniden, dives Ach., poet. für großen asiatischen Reichtum übh., Hor. carm. 2, 12, 21. – Dav. 1) Achaemenidae, ārum, m. (Ἀχαιμενίδαι), die Achämeniden (s. vorher), Plin. 6, 98. – 2) Achaemenius, a, um, persisch od. parthisch, Hor. u. Ov. – poet. = östlich, lux, Avien. descr. orb. 474: ortus, Avien. or. mar. 655. – 3) Achaemenis, idis, Akk. ida, f., ein bernsteinfarbiges Zauberkraut, Plin. 24, 161, das. auch hippophobas gen., weil vorzügl. die Stuten es scheuen, nach Ps. Apul. herb. 58 = polion (w.s.).
