Batāvī, ōrum, m. (Batăvi bei Lucan. 1, 431), die Bataver, eine urspr. keltische Völkerschaft, die infolge innerer Spaltungen ihre Wohnsitze verlassen u. eine Insel an der Mündung des Rheins u. der Maas in Besitz genommen hatte, nun gen. Batavorum insula (im engern Sinne die Insel Holland, die vom eig. Rhein, von der Waal in Verbindung mit der Maas u. vom Ozean gebildet wird), Tac. Germ. 29; hist. 4, 12.
