canārius, a, um (canis), I) zum Hunde gehörig, Hunde-, sacrificium, Atei. Capito: augurium, wo ein Hund geopfert wurde, Comment. pontif. b. Plin.: herba, eine Grasart, nach Sprengel »fingerförmiger Fench« (Panicum dactylon, L.), Plin. – II) als Adi. propr., Canāria (īnsula), eine von den insulae fortunatae im Atlantischen Meere, wegen der Menge der dort vorhandenen großen Hunde so genannt, Plin. 6, 205.
